We are Peterborough Currents – a growing news outlet providing Peterborough with the high-quality local news our community deserves. With your support, we’ll expand our weekly email newsletter into a full news website and report more stories with rigour and empathy.
Peterborough Currents is led by local journalists Ayesha Barmania and Will Pearson.
We started in 2017 as a grassroots, volunteer podcast because we’re committed to telling stories that provide the context you need to understand our city, while never forgetting the people – our neighbours – at the heart of the issue.
In March, when COVID-19 hit Peterborough, we saw that in the midst of a crisis our community was looking for information and connection. We knew that vulnerable communities would be impacted by COVID-19, and that many of these stories would not be covered by local media.
And so we took a leap of faith and started filling this gap by bringing you in-depth journalism with deep community roots. We are humbled by your incredible response. Since then, we’ve grown from 20 email subscribers to nearly 2,000.
With your support, we want to expand Peterborough Currents into a reader-supported news outlet accountable to our community.
